ORF Genetics is an innovative plant biotechnology company and a pioneer in developing and manufacturing high-quality recombinant proteins in bioengineered barley plants, such as human and animal growth factors.

ORFEUS, ORF Genetics’ unique expression system, uses barley grain as a vehicle for large-scale, recombinant protein production, providing a more efficient and safer method than other protein expression systems.

This technology has allowed ORF Genetics to develop a portfolio of growth factors, including human growth factors for the stem cell research market, as well as for its own successful skincare brand, BIOEFFECT. Furthermore, ORF Genetics' latest product, MESOkine, launched in 2020, are animal growth factors specifically developed for the cellular agriculture market, with a strong focus on meat production from stem cells.

ORF Genetics grows the barley in its own high-tech, eco-friendly greenhouse, located in a black lava field on the Reykjanes Peninsula, using Iceland’s rich, geothermal, renewable energy resources.
